On September 26, 2020, President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court left by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Judge Barrett was nominated to the Seventh Circuit by President Trump on May 8, 2017, and the Senate confirmed her on October 31, 2017. Judge Barrett has also served as a law professor at Notre Dame Law School, where she taught civil procedure, constitutional law, and statutory interpretation.
