SECTION: R(5) ORD ER AN D REASON S Defendant City of Morgan City m oves the Court for sum m ary judgm ent under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 56 on plaintiff Sonia Todd’s claim for punitive dam ages.1 Todd filed a civil rights lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against Morgan City and others, alleging that defendant J ustin Palm ature, a correctional officer at the Morgan City jail, sexually harassed her and other fem ale inm ates.2 To the extent that Todd seeks punitive dam ages from Morgan City, those claim s fail as a m atter of law. As the Suprem e Court holds, “§ 1983 plaintiffs m ay not recover punitive dam ages against a m unicipality.” Jefferson v. City of Tarrant, Ala., 522 U.S. 75, 79 (1997) (citing N ew port v. 1 R.
